Step 4 Relaxation
Lets do a quick recap of the last 4 weeks. First of all you were told that in order to feel good you need to smile. I hope you are all smiling and feeling good. The second step was learning to laugh at yourself. Laughing at yourself makes you feel good and allows you to accept mistakes. The third was helping other people to feel good. Helping other people helps you to feel good.
Now we are up to step 4, relaxation. One of the biggest problems we have in life is not taking enough time out to enjoy life. Yes we have to work, but we also need to take time out to do the things we want in life.
Let me ask you a question, do you really want to spend your whole day at work? Is that what you really enjoy? I know some people may say yes. However I know a lot of people will say no. If your a parent do you really want to spend all that time away from your children? They grow so fast, is working 10-12 hours days worth it if you miss out on their lives?
What about your partner? Has work become between you both? Do you come home from work to tired to want to be romantic? Do you just want to crawl into bed and sleep instead of a nice romantic dinner, bottle of wine and candles?
Is spending all your time at work really worth missing out on your children and your wonderful partner?
If you are reading this and your starting to agree with this then you need to take some time off. Even if is in the middle of the week, take a sicky, tell the kids they have the day off school, grab the wife/husband and go and do something fun. Remember work and school will still be there tomorrow, and in the great scheme of life neither is really that important that you cant take a day here or there to enjoy life.
No matter how important you think your job is you need to take time to stop and recharge your batteries. You can be of no use to anybody if you flog yourself to death at you job. You need to take care of yourself first before you can take care of somebody else.
And if you work to hard you can loose perspective on why you actually are working. You need to stop and smell the roses and remind yourself about how great life really is. Refocus on why you are working. Is it to have a great life or to take you away from what you really want to do?
Not only do you need to have time with the family but you need to take time just for you. Take time to just treat you. You are worth it. Do the things you think are fun, horse riding, skydiving, white water rafting, bush walking, surfing, bubble bath, massage or going to a footy game.
You need to look after you. You need to ensure that you are happy and feeling great before you try to make anybody else happy.
So after you read, this take a day off grab the other half and the kids or just go by yourself and go some where for fun. That my challenge to you. When will be the next opportunity to do this. NO EXCUSES, get out there and have some fun. Work/school will be there tomorrow. So Relax and go have some fun. I know I will.
