It funny when I talk to people about what they want in their lives many do not have a clue about what they want. They have no idea about what they want to achieve or what they should do to get more into their lives. Most know that they what more but just not they want. They are aimless and living pretty much day to day.

Then I meet some people that are driven. They are driven to succeed and know what it is that they want in their lives. They live with passion and have exciting lives. Plus they are so determined to succeed that they will not let anyone or anything stand in their way. They will achieve their dreams no matter what.

Why is there such difference in people? The simple answer is goals. The people that are determined to succeed have goals the aimless people do not. The successful people know what they want, when they want it by and how they will achieve it. They take steps, no matter how small, to move closer to their dreams.

What you need to remember as well is that the successful people are not always the most educated. In fact there is no relation between your level of success and you level of education.  Some of the most successful people today did not finish school.  The top sportspeople in the world get millions and many failed school, so education isn’t a factor. However what is important is their drive and determination to succeed at all costs. They knew what they wanted and they moved heaven and earth to get it. In short they set their goals and went out and achieved them.

So what are goals? A goal is something that you want to achieve in life. It can be such things as plasma screen TVs, houses and cars or it could be losing weight, changing your beliefs or trying something new. It doesn’t matter what your goal is as long as it is something that is important to you and motivates you. The more important a goal is to your the more likely you are to achieve it.

The power of goal setting is indisputable in the area of success. Let’s face facts, you cannot be successful if you don’t know what you want to achieve. Most people in business understand this, that is why they set specific goals on such things as how much they want to earn, how they will expand their products and locations and how they will ensure customer satisfaction. When they know what they want to achieve then they have a better chance of making things work for them. In Australia most business have five year goals and are reviewed every six months. In Japan they have 200 year goals for the business and they who company is working towards them, and they are achieving them.

Asides from a business goals are important for the average person. Take a person that is wants to lose weight. They may be  unhappy about their size but still feed their face every day with rubbish and drink soft drink. They have no determination to do anything about their size. Take the same person but now they are getting married in six months.  They will be out will be out walking every day, changing their diet and taking every step necessary to loos that weight. Why the difference? Because not they are motivated to look good for their weeding day. They have set a big goal and they want to make sure that they achieve it. Plus that goal is so important to them that they will do whatever it takes to achieve it.

This week I am going to set you a little task. I want you to take 10 minutes to set out your goals.  I want you to write down everything that you want in life. However make sure that it is things that you really want. If you don’t want to go to Paris then don’t put it on your list. Then again if you want to go to Spain then that goes on your goal list. The more important your gaols are to you then you will be more motivated to achieve them. Take time write out what you want and by when you want it, then every morning look at your list and see what you can do to move you one step closer to your dreams.

I look at my goals everyday and make sure that I am always moving towards them.

Next week we will look at how to make yourself immune to failure.
