Stand Up for your self

Last week we spoke about not fighting the system, rolling with the punches and going with the flow. Today I want to tell you the exact opposite.

Now I’m not here to retract what I was saying, in fact I still believe that you need to work with and use the system. What I want to tell you today is that no matter what happens to you in life there will always be a time when you will have to stand up for what’s right and what you believe in. Some times that will mean going against the flow of what others think are right.

Most of the time this will come when you have someone, whether they are a person, group, boss, company or government that is trying to bully you. Unfortunately in life we all face bullying in some way or form.  It can have a really bad effect on people leading to stress, anxiety and physical sickness.

Most of the people that bully do so because it makes them feel powerful. They choose to attack people weaker than them and force them into doing what they think is right. It may be doing work for them, not saying something that should be said or trying to get you to accept their inappropriate way of life.

Bullies usually run in packs. They do this as they are not strong or brave by themselves. Individually they are cowards, but together they believe they have strength and power.

What they don’t realise is that no matter how big they are or how many there is, the moment you say no and stand up to them they lose their power.  Oh they don’t back down straight away. They will scream and yell at you and make more threats but in the long run, as you continue to stand your ground they will lose steam.

Most big companies, governments and bosses love to throw rules and regulations at you. This doesn’t matter. They have little ground to stand on if they have been doing the wrong thing such as bullying you. They know this as well, that’s why they will make bigger and bigger threats. They are trying to bluff you in shutting up and doing nothing that will get them in trouble.

Now when you decide that you are going to stand up for yourself you need to be sure that you are not starting to bully back. You need to ensure that you are doing the right thing. In what may sound like an oxymoron you need to do use the system when standing up against it. Or in plain English, you need to use everything that is available to you when standing up to the bullies. Remember they are doing the wrong thing and you won’t make things better by doing the wrong thing back.

So make your stand. Say no to people trying to push you around. Ensure that you are doing the right thing and use the system to help you.

I know it can be hard but to use an old quote “it’s better to die on your feet than to live on your knees”.
